Graduating pearl sizes is one of the quieter techniques in jewelry design. The two pearl sizes -- 8 to 8.4mm at the center, stepping down to 4.5 to 4.8mm on each side -- create a tapered silhouette that sits low and wears clean without competing with anything else on your hand. I hand-fabricate the ring from 12 gauge 14k gold-filled wire, which gives the band real presence and keeps its shape through daily wear.
I choose grade A freshwater pearls for their luster and even surface. Because a pearl is soft, around 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale, and a ring meets the most contact of any piece, the order of wear matters: put this ring on last after lotion and perfume, take it off first. A little care is all it asks, and it will hold its luster for years.
