These one-of-a-kind Baroque Pearl Statement Earrings are handmade by Andrea Li in her Denver studio. The materials are freshwater baroque pearls; 14K gold-filled hoop and dramatic chain drop; 12 gauge gold-filled wire hoops. Total length: 6 inches.
Baroque pearls are the irregular ones, the ones that grow without a nucleus to shape them into a perfect sphere, and that irregularity is exactly why they belong in a statement piece. Every surface is different. Every catch of light is different. The chain drop moves as you move, making the earrings feel alive in a way that a manufactured piece never quite manages.
With pearls I follow a rule I learned early: they go on last and come off first. Pearls sit at 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale, which puts them softer than most gemstones and softer than household dust. Lotion, perfume, sunscreen, and even sweat will dull the nacre over time. The safest habit is to put these earrings on after everything else, and to wipe them gently with a soft cloth when you take them off. Store them lying flat, not hanging, so the wire stays straight and the pearl surface stays unmarked.
