This Baroque Coin Pearl Double Drop Pendant Necklace is handmade by Andrea Li: a hand-fabricated 12 gauge 14K gold-filled wire arch pendant with gold-filled chain drops carrying two baroque coin pearl drops. Pendant length 4¼″; total necklace length 24″. It is part of Aglow, her modular collection of barely-there, naked jewelry built to be stacked, layered, and lived in.
Coin pearls are disc-shaped, flat on both faces, so they move differently than a round or baroque pearl: they swing and catch light on an edge, then flip to reveal a broad, lustrous face. The two drops on this necklace are baroque coin pearls, meaning each disc formed with its own surface irregularity during cultivation, a texture that makes the luster shift as they move. The arch pendant is fabricated entirely by hand in the Denver studio, shaped from 12 gauge gold-filled wire before the drops are added, so the structure carries weight without feeling heavy at the chest.
Pearls are soft, around 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale, and they ask for a little care: put this necklace on after lotion and perfume, take it off before handwashing, and wipe it gently with a soft cloth when you remove it. Store it separately from harder stones that could scratch the nacre. Treated that way, the luster holds for years of real wear.
