Small Gold Open Circle Single Pearl Illusion Ring
This small gold open circle single pearl illusion ring is handmade by Andrea Li in her Denver studio: a 14k gold-filled floating open circle with one 8.4mm freshwater pearl seamlessly transitioning to a gilded arch open ring band. It is part of Aglow, her modular collection of barely-there, naked jewelry built to be stacked, layered, and lived in.
The circle and the arch appear to be separate forms, but the transition between them is what makes this ring interesting. Up close the geometry holds: the open circle reads as a frame around the pearl, and the gilded arch grounds it as a band rather than a pendant element. It is the kind of ring that catches the eye and then stays subtle, which is the whole point of Aglow.
The 8.4mm pearl is one of the larger stones I use in the collection, which is a deliberate choice here. Pearls are soft, around 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale, and a ring takes more contact than any other piece. I care for pearls the same way I always have: put it on last after lotion and perfume, take it off first, store it away from stones that can scratch it. With that much pearl in the circle, the luster is unmistakable and worth protecting.
