Homecoming Green Amethyst Necklace

Homecoming Green Amethyst Necklace
This is Homecoming, a one-of-a-kind green amethyst triple strand necklace that began with a question I ask at the bench: what happens to the wire left over when a piece is finished. The square 14k gold-filled wire I fabricated the Homecoming Hoops from had enough left on the spool to become three long ovals, one dropping as the pendant frame and two splitting at the top to flank the cluster.
The focal stone is a long simple-cut green amethyst, the prasiolite variety, dropping from the cluster into that frame with a clean geometric presence. The cluster vines partway up the right flanking oval, enough asymmetry to keep it from sitting still. Inside each flanking oval I hand-placed a crown-cut mixed beryl bead, aquamarine and morganite and heliodor faceted into small crowns with a slight color shift between them. Around them gather green amethyst briolettes, aquamarine, purple and gray and green sapphires, green topaz, gray and green moonstone, mystic quartz and Akoya keshi pearls.
The body is a labradorite enamel chain paired with a heavier rectangular link chain, both 14k gold-filled. A third chain hides in there, and careful spacing at the back keeps all three from twisting so they lie together as one from the front.
This is the most everyday piece in the collection, made that way on purpose. Made once by Andrea Li in her Denver studio, and it goes home with you alone.
Necklace Length vs. Drop
Circumference / Length: The full measurement of the chain or strand from end to end (including the clasp): 17 inches
Drop: How far the necklace hangs down in the front: 2 ½ inches
Extension Chain: This necklace is adjustable with a 6-inch chain at the back.
Complete the set with the matching Homecoming Hoops.

From the bench
This began with a question I ask at the bench: what happens to the wire left over when a piece is finished.
The square 14k gold-filled wire I fabricated the Homecoming Hoops from had enough left on the spool to become three long ovals, one dropping as the pendant frame and two splitting at the top to flank the cluster.
The focal stone is a long simple-cut green amethyst, the prasiolite variety, at 7 on the Mohs scale and built for everyday wear.
What happens to the wire left over| Homecoming | Typical alternative | |
|---|---|---|
| Center stone | Simple-cut green amethyst (prasiolite), long drop; chosen for clarity and geometry | Dyed green glass or synthetic stone |
| Metal | 14k gold-filled square wire, hand-fabricated and soldered into three ovals | Gold-plated base metal, cast |
| Construction | One of a kind, hand-built in Denver; built once, never repeated | Mass-produced, repeated in unlimited quantity |
| Focal detail | Three soldered ovals that mirror the Homecoming Hoops, with the longer oval framing the drop pendant | Single pendant on a standard chain |
| Cluster | Mixed beryl crown-cut beads, green amethyst briolettes, sapphires, topaz, moonstone, mystic quartz, and Akoya keshi pearls, hand-set to vine the cluster | One or two accent stones, machine-set |
| Wearability | Three coordinated strands read as one unified chain; balanced for everyday wear through evening | Single-occasion statement or plain everyday chain |
What is green amethyst?
Green amethyst is the trade name for prasiolite, a variety of quartz that ranges from a pale, almost watery green to a deeper sage. It shares the same mineral family as purple amethyst (both are quartz, hardness 7 on the Mohs scale), but gets its color from heat-induced changes to iron content in the stone. In Homecoming, the center drop is a long simple-cut prasiolite chosen for its clean geometric profile, and the cluster includes large flat green amethyst briolettes. You can read more in my amethyst gemstone guide.
Is this necklace one of a kind?
Yes. Homecoming is one of a kind, built once and never repeated. The three soldered 14k gold-filled ovals were fabricated from the wire left over after I made the Homecoming Hoops, so the supply that shaped this piece is gone. No other necklace will carry this cluster.
Does it come with matching earrings?
Yes. The Homecoming Hoops are the companion piece, built on the same square 14k gold-filled wire and anchored by the same long ovals. The necklace was made to mirror them. Worn together they read as one complete look; each piece also works on its own.
How do I care for it?
Green amethyst is quartz, which sits at 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, durable enough for everyday wear but worth some care around harder stones. Store Homecoming on its own or in a pouch, keep it away from chemicals and heat, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. The 14k gold-filled metal will hold its finish for years with the same light care.
