Crest Single Wave Gemstone Bangle

$680.00

Crest is a one-of-a-kind gemstone bangle, hand-formed in 14k gold-filled by Andrea Li in her Denver studio, and the most minimal piece in the Second Light collection.

The form is a single wave. It was shaped on a wire jig from 10-gauge 14k gold-filled wire, with one side resolving slightly higher than the other so the curve comes out asymmetric rather than even, then worked on an anvil until the metal held. Each end finishes in a 14k gold-filled ball soldered down into a divot drilled into the wire itself, so the ball sits inside the end rather than on top of it.

The asymmetry leaves a place along the bend for a gemstone cluster to sit down into the curve instead of perching on it. Shield-cut and pear aquamarine, a fancy-cut amethyst, lavender quartz, morganite, kunzite, pale amethyst, clear pink, opaque pink and purple sapphires, a Japanese Akoya pearl and a freshwater pearl, all wired into holes drilled through the frame. Twelve kinds of stone in a space you could cover with a thumb.

One lavender keshi freshwater pearl reaches across the open span of the wave and anchors into the other side. It holds the cluster more securely than the drilled points alone, and it carries the eye across the gap.

The result is opulent and minimal at once. One line of gold-filled wire, nothing else structural, and a cluster as dense as anything in the collection. It slips on over the wrist and sits flat. Part of the Second Light collection.

Crest was built once and will not be repeated.

Why a bangle, not another cuff

From the bench

Crest is a single wave formed on a wire jig from 10-gauge 14k gold-filled wire, with one side left slightly higher than the other so the curve came out asymmetric.

Each end finishes in a gold-filled ball soldered down into a divot drilled into the cut end of the wire, which took a few passes to sit level.

I already had two cuffs in this collection, so the third bracelet had to be neither.

Is this a cuff or a bangle?

A bangle. It is a single asymmetric wave of 10-gauge 14k gold-filled wire with a finished ball at each end, slimmer than the cuffs in the collection and the only bracelet in Second Light that is not one.

What is 14k gold-filled?

A thick layer of real 14k gold bonded to a base core under heat and pressure. The gold layer is far heavier than plating, so it wears for years rather than months. Everything structural in Second Light is 14k gold-filled.

Is this bangle one of a kind?

Yes. Crest was built once and will not be repeated. The wave was formed by hand and will not come off the jig the same way twice.

How do I put it on?

Slide the open wave over the narrowest part of your wrist and rotate until the cluster sits where you want it. There is no clasp.
