Alpenglow Kunzite Teardrop Earrings

Alpenglow Kunzite Teardrop Earrings
Alpenglow Earrings are one-of-a-kind kunzite teardrop earrings, hand-formed in 14k gold-filled by Andrea Li in her Denver studio, and the companion to the Alpenglow necklace.
Each frame was formed by hand from 12-gauge 14k gold-filled wire and soldered to an ear post, then filled. The cluster sits inside the open frame rather than hanging below it, so the stones float in the opening with the metal reading as an outline around them. That is the same structural idea as the necklace, where fabricated link shapes frame the stones set into them.
A matched pair is not two of the same earring. Because your ears frame your face, a pair is seen as a mirrored set, so both clusters were built at the same time with each movement mirrored, making each one the other reversed rather than a copy.
Kunzite, morganite, simple-cut aquamarine, lavender keshi freshwater pearls, Japanese Akoya keshi pearls, and clear pink, opaque pink and purple sapphires. Two lavender quartz went in last, once everything else was placed.
They wear with the Alpenglow necklace and they wear alone, which is how most people will wear them. Seven hours at the bench, longer than some necklaces in this collection, because there is no room to hide a decision at this scale. Part of the Second Light collection.
Built once and never repeated.
How Length is Measured
For Drop and Dangle Earrings: Measure straight down from the top of the hook or post: 1 ½ inches
Ships same day (Mon–Wed orders before 4pm MT) FedEx 2-Day | Fully Insured | Signature Required 14-day returns | Full shipping & returns policy →

From the bench
Both clusters were built at the same time, each movement mirrored, so one earring is the other reversed rather than a copy.
The teardrop frames are hand-formed from 12-gauge 14k gold-filled wire with an ear post soldered to each, then filled so the cluster floats inside the opening rather than hanging below it.
Your two ears are read as a mirrored set, which is why a copy worn on both sides looks subtly wrong.
How I build a matched pair| Alpenglow Earrings | Typical alternative | |
|---|---|---|
| Frames | Formed by hand from 12-gauge 14k gold-filled wire and soldered to the post | Cast or purchased earring findings |
| Cluster placement | Set INSIDE the open frame so the stones float in the opening | Hung below a closed frame |
| Matching | Both clusters built simultaneously as mirror opposites, not as copies | Two identical clusters, which read wrong worn together |
| Metal | 12-gauge 14k gold-filled throughout, including posts | Gold-plated base metal |
| Setting | Every stone wired into a drilled hole in the frame | Glued or strung |
| Construction | One of a kind, hand-built in Denver; built once, never repeated | Mass-produced and repeated |
Why are they mirrored?
Because your ears frame your face, a pair is read as a mirrored set rather than two copies. Both clusters were built at the same time with each movement mirrored, so each is the other reversed. Identical clusters look subtly wrong worn together.
What is kunzite?
The pink to lilac variety of spodumene, colored by traces of manganese, sitting at 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. It is pleochroic, so the depth of pink shifts with viewing angle.
Can I wear them alone?
Yes. They are built to stand on their own, and most people will wear them without the Alpenglow necklace.
Are these one of a kind?
Yes. Built once in Andrea Li's Denver studio and never repeated.
