Halo Sequin Chain Tassel Earrings

Halo Sequin Chain Tassel Earrings
Halo Earrings are one-of-a-kind moonstone tassel earrings, hand-formed in 14k gold-filled by Andrea Li in her Denver studio, and the companion to the Halo floating choker.
Two AAAA rainbow moonstone marquis sit at the center of each, cut as smooth polished domes so the blue adularescence can move across the stone rather than being broken up by facets. These two came off the same strand as the eight in the Blue Hour necklace, chosen deliberately so the moonstones on the earrings mirror the moonstones on the choker rather than merely resembling them.
Below each cluster, gold-filled sequin chains hang at staggered lengths, each one topped with a tiny moonstone rondelle. Staggering is what makes them read as a tassel instead of a fringe, and sequin chain moves differently than link chain, catching light in flat little flashes as it swings. That is the same behavior as the cascade on the choker, which is why the chain is on both pieces.
The frames were formed by hand from 12-gauge 14k gold-filled wire and soldered to an ear post. Both clusters were built at the same time as mirror opposites, since a pair is read as a mirrored set rather than two copies. Kunzite, pale amethyst, marquis amethyst, and clear and opaque pink sapphires fill in around the moonstone.
Wear them with Halo or on their own, where the movement does the work.
Built once and never repeated.
How Length is Measured
For Drop and Dangle Earrings: Measure straight down from the top of the hook or post: 3 inches

From the bench
The two moonstone marquis came off the same strand as the eight in Blue Hour and the cluster on the Halo choker, so these mirror those pieces rather than merely resembling them.
Below each cluster the gold-filled sequin chains hang at staggered lengths, and the stagger is what makes them read as a tassel instead of a fringe.
Sequin chain moves differently from link chain, catching light in flat little flashes as it swings.
Why these mirror the Halo choker| Halo Earrings | Typical alternative | |
|---|---|---|

| Movement | Gold-filled sequin chains hung at staggered lengths, each topped with a moonstone rondelle | Uniform fringe or a fixed drop |
| Matching | Both clusters built simultaneously as mirror opposites, not as copies | Two identical clusters |
| Frames | Formed by hand from 12-gauge 14k gold-filled wire and soldered to the post | Cast or purchased findings |
| Metal | 14k gold-filled throughout, including chain and posts | Gold-plated base metal |
| Construction | One of a kind, hand-built in Denver; built once, never repeated | Mass-produced and repeated |
What is adularescence?
The floating blue glow in moonstone, caused by light scattering between microscopic alternating layers of orthoclase and albite. A smooth cabochon lets it move across the stone; facets would break it into surface sparkle. More in my moonstone guide.
What is sequin chain?
A flat chain made of small disc links that lie against each other, so it catches light in flat flashes as it swings rather than glinting like a round link chain.
Can I wear them alone?
Yes. They are built to stand on their own, and most people will wear them without the Halo choker.
How do I care for moonstone?
Moonstone is softer than quartz, so put it on last and take it off first. Clean with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, never an ultrasonic cleaner.
