Silver Lining Lariat Earrings

Silver Lining Lariat Earrings
These are the Silver Lining Earrings -- aquamarine lariat drops that I built as the coordinating mate to my Silver Lining pearl chain lariat necklace. From the start, the brief I gave myself was restraint: nothing that would compete with the long, flowing presence of the lariat. The earrings needed to echo it, not crowd it.
I used natural aquamarine crown-cut side-drill beads -- faceted geometric shapes ranging from about 23x16mm down to 8x5mm -- and strung them in a gradual drop on the same hand-bailed pearl chain that runs through the lariat. The aquamarine has that particular clarity that looks lit from inside, and the faceting catches the light as you move without demanding attention. The crown cut gives each stone a slightly architectural edge that keeps the whole piece reading as intentional rather than delicate-for-delicate's-sake. 14k gold-filled ear wires and wire complete the piece.
The result is a long lariat earring that sits close when you tuck your hair back and swings gently when you move -- the kind of earring that works as easily with a relaxed linen shirt on a weekday as it does with a bare-shouldered dress for an evening out. Because the lariat shape keeps the stones close to the neck rather than dangling outward, they layer quietly with the necklace rather than competing with it.
These were made once, as one pair, by Andrea Li in her Denver studio. No other pair carries this specific combination of crown-cut aquamarine stones in this arrangement, on this pearl chain, with these proportions. When they find you, they are yours alone.

From the bench
The brief I gave myself was restraint, because nothing should compete with the long flowing presence of the lariat.
Natural aquamarine crown-cut side-drill beads graduate from about 23x16mm down to 8x5mm, strung on the same hand-bailed pearl chain that runs through the necklace.
Aquamarine has a clarity that looks lit from inside, which is enough presence on its own at this length.

What makes aquamarine crown-cut?
Crown cut is a faceting style that gives a stone a flat, table-like top with angled facets running down the sides -- similar to the crown of a classic round brilliant, but applied to a geometric bead shape. On aquamarine, which already has excellent clarity and a pale blue-green color, the crown cut catches and scatters light without obscuring the stone's natural translucency. The result is a drop that glints as it moves rather than sitting flat. You can read more about the stone itself in my aquamarine gemstone guide. These earrings also use the same hand-bailed pearl chain as the Silver Lining lariat necklace.
Are these earrings one of a kind?
Yes. The Silver Lining Earrings are one of a kind, built once in my Denver studio and never repeated. The specific crown-cut aquamarine stones, their arrangement, and the pearl chain they sit on make this exact pair unrepeatable. When they find you, no one else is wearing them.
Do they pair with a necklace?
Yes -- these earrings are the coordinating mate to the Silver Lining lariat necklace. Both use the same hand-bailed pearl chain and the same 14k gold-filled wire, so they read as a set. The earrings were intentionally kept lean so they echo rather than compete with the long opera-length lariat.
How do I care for aquamarine?
Aquamarine is a durable stone (7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale), but the side-drill setting means you should avoid snagging the chain on fabric or clasps. Store these earrings separately from harder pieces, keep them away from chemicals and heat, and wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. The 14k gold-filled components stay bright with basic care and should not be soaked in water for extended periods.
